Viola Boyd Mosso

Viola B. Boyd-Mosso of Meadville, PA, died on Thursday March 4, 2021, at home with her loving daughter, Karen Palmer, by her side. She was 96.

Viola was born on July 8, 1924, the daughter of Michael and Anna Bachiak of Meadville, PA.

Viola had a grace about her and a joie de vivre that was infectious. She delighted in two major careers in her life, and did not consider either of them work, but a privilege and pleasure. Viola started her first career right out of high school with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security and retired many years later as the District Employment Supervisor. Her second career overlapped her first and started in 1973 as a Realtor, selling mostly for ERA Richmond Real Estate Service. She sold her last home at the age of 81 and talked fondly of selling real estate until her passing. Vi enjoyed getting to know everyone she met and naturally took to helping others. People were special to her and if she had the pleasure of meeting you, you had a friend for life in Vi.

Viola enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Viola and William had fun tailgating at Penn State football games with a group of dear friends. They hosted and aided in fundraising events for Penn State including steak dinners and an annual golf outing. Viola and William happily gave of their time to the Meadville Soup Kitchen.

She was a lifetime member at Emmanuel Community Church in Meadville, PA and joyfully helped with sauerkraut dinners and rummage sales and was an integral part in keeping open the church she loved.

Viola is preceded in death by her first husband and high school sweetheart, George Boyd. Viola was blessed to find love again with her now deceased, second husband, William Mosso. She is also preceded in death by an infant son and son Bruce Boyd, son Craig Mosso, six siblings: Mary Bachiak, Josephine Bachiak, Michael Bachiak, Aurel Bachiak, Anna Lindsay and Helen Warp, all of Meadville.

The local chapter of the U.S. Marine Corp League is named after her brother, 1st Lieutenant Aurel A. Bachiak, who was killed in action on Okinawa on April 10, 1945. Viola is also preceded in death by her nephew Doug Warp of Meadville and great nephew Matthew Warp.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Palmer and husband Jay, of Meadville, her grandchildren Heather Pickens and husband Jeff of Annapolis, MD, Holly Ross and husband Tim of San Diego, CA, Travis Palmer of Meadville, Brent Mosso of Erie, PA and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Denise Estes Wisinski of Meadville, who helped care for Viola these last two years, her nephew Denny Warp and wife Lois of Meadville, two great nephews Joshua Estes and wife Nikki of West Palm Beach, FL, and Ryan Warp and wife Ekatarina of Hampton, VA, and two great nieces Julia McCain and husband Justin and Jennifer Estes all of La Jolla, CA.

A Celebration of Life will be held for both Viola and her husband, William, on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 9-11 AM at Oakgrove Park Pavillion, 10902 Oakgrove Ave., Meadville. They passed away just two and a half weeks apart from each other.

Viola will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, PA.

Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
