Vora Lucille (Howard) Cole, 79, of Saegertown, entered into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Meadville Medical Center.
Vora was born in the family farm home in Steuben Twp., on Christmas Day, December 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Ross Ernest and Ethel May (Dragoo) Howard.
On April 8, 1956, Vora married Richard Gordon Cole at the First Baptist Church, Meadville; he preceded her in death on October 19, 1997.
Vora was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 62 years where she was also a member of the 'Friends in Christ' class. Over the years she served as a nursery school worker, Sunday School teacher, youth leader and sang in the church choir.
Vora attended Beardsley one room schoolhouse prior to her family moving to their farm in Centerville. There she attended Bloomfield Consolidated school for the next six years. In 1952 she graduated as class valedictorian where she received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award as well as the Readers Digest Award. The family later moved to Meadville where Vora graduated from Michaels Beauty Academy. Vora knew she had chosen the right profession. For the next 2 1/2 years she was employed by the former Vanity Fair Beauty Salon. Following her marriage, the newlyweds lived in Maryland where Richard was stationed in the Army and Vora worked at Bs Beauty Shop. After returning to Saegertown, Vora opened a beauty shop on Main Street. Additionally Vora worked at the Crawford County Care Center beauty shop for 5 years. In 1959 they purchased their home in Saegertown where they built an addition for Voras beauty shop. On the 50th anniversary of her in home beauty shop, Vora hosted a party for her 'dear ladies', some of whom she had styled for over 50 years. Vora was a member of Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary and of the Lilac Ladies of the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered with the Crawford County READ Program. She had a passion for traveling, having visited the British Isles, Austria, Germany, Prague, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary and Bratislava. Some of her other interests included gardening and hiking. Although she was adventurous and dedicated to her work, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. From childhood all the way through high school, Vora attended all the local church, school and sports activies of all her grandchildren and upon graduation, took each of them on a trip. Vora leaves great memories to all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
