Walter L. Moody, Sr.

Walter L. Moody, Sr., 91, of Meadville, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center.

Walter was born in Como, MS on June 16, 1928, a son of the late Percy and Lou (Trailor) Moody. He was the last surviving of their ten children.

Walter was married to Martha L. (Daniels) Moody for 72 years. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2018.

He was an active and faithful member of St. John Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church Meadville, where he served as Trustee and Usher for many years.

After nearly 20 years, Walter retired from PPG Industries. He had previously been employed by the former Meadville Malleable, now known as Advanced Cast Products for a period of 20 years. Walter was a hard worker all of his life and he loved all things relating to the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening and working in his yard. His family and extended family meant the world to him and he would do anything to help each and every one of them whenever he could. His greatest joy came from time spent with his family. He especially loved traveling to North Carolina as well as Florida to visit with his daughters and their families. Nothing compared to the fishing in Florida and the barbecue in North Carolina. Walter leaves a void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

Walter is survived by three children Walter L. Moody, Jr. (Thelma) of Sharon, Mary Moody Johnson (Ron) of Sebring, FL, Hazel Moody Reams (Thelbert) of Graham, NC, three grandchildren Kevin Johnson of Tampa, FL, Keya Johnson Thomas (James) of Charlotte, NC, Magen Moody Singleton (Darrell) of Houston, TX, one great grandchild Dylan Singleton, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Martha, Walter was preceded in death by a son Darrell Moody, seven sisters Mattie Lee, Agnes Mack, Mary Pope, Rosetta Wilkins, Lorain Hill, Daisey Evans, Asie Lee Vaughn, two brothers R.B. Moody and Percy Moody, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where a Home Going Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, with Rev. Cameron Bowman, Pastor, officiating.

Walter will be laid to rest next to his wife, Martha, in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
