Wanda Mae Porter

Wanda Mae (Yount) Porter, 91, of Gastonia, NC, formerly of Meadville, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Carillon Assistant Living, Cramerton, NC.

She was born in Crawford County, and was the daughter of the late Harmon and Belle (Myers) Yount.

Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in Education. She taught school in Gaston County since 1967 and taught at several schools, including Bessemer City Junior High School and North Gaston High School.

Mrs. Porter is survived by two daughters, Penny Rimmer of Gastonia, NC, Valerie Heafner and husband Tim of Rutherfordton, NC; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 68 years, William Harris Porter, Jr.; sister, Lillian Cottle.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park with Chaplain Carl Synan officiating.

Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville
