Wesley "Jack" H. Thompson, Jr., 84, of 16015 Park Ave. Ext., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Jack was born in Meadville, on September 5, 1932, a son of the late Wesley H. and Elva L. (Zirkle) Thompson, Sr.

On July 12, 1952, Jack married Mary Lou Lilly; she survives.

He was of the Methodist faith.

In 1991 Jack retired from the Meadville Post Office after 33 years of service. He was a 1950 graduate of Saegertown High School where he was a member of the basketball team for four years. A softball enthusiast all of his life, Jack was a longtime player, coach as well as official. In 1975 he and his wife, Mary Lou, were instrumental in creating the Lincoln Ave. Softball Complex in Fifth Ward of Meadville and for the past 40 years volunteered endless time to the complex. In 2011, in a surprise announcement, the complex was officially renamed The Jack and Mary Lou Thompson Softball Complex where they were recognized by representatives of the Amateur Softball Association of PA as well as Vernon Township. On April 30, 2014, Jack received the Raymond P. Shafer Award for distinguished community service and on February 8, 2013 he was honored with the Elmer M. Nelson Award of Excellence as Volunteer of the Year for his tireless service to the Sertoma Club. For 40 years he provided significant assistance to the community of Crawford County by purchasing wheelchairs and other medical equipment for the needy and also by coordinating and overseeing the Jimmy Moore Fund Christmas party. Additionally in the winter of 2013 Jack received the Wesbury Senior Tribute Award for his service to enhancing the lives of seniors. A sports fan, Jack enjoyed following the Saegertown High School teams as well as Meadville and Allegheny College sports. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan and would equally follow the Pittsburgh Pirates. When he wasn't following sports teams, he enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lou, of 64 years, Jack is survived by a son William H. Thompson of Conneautville, a daughter Cindy Lou Dawson and her husband Mark of Saegertown, two grandchildren Clay Michael Dawson, Liam Charles Dawson and his fiance Ashley Harry, three step grandchildren LuKay Weatherby, Jacqueline Hetrick, Grady Minnis, five great grandchildren Daven Weatherby, Jane Hetrick, Sam Hetrick, Mia Lally, Vivienne Lally, two brothers Charles E. Thompson and his wife Pat of Union City, James A. Thompson and his wife Dusty Rio Frio, TX, sister in law Frances Peters and her husband Jim of Saegertown, sister in law Alice Miller of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a son Charles "B.C." A. Thompson.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3-7 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville. Family and friends are also invited to call on Saturday from 10-11 AM at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, Pastor, officiating.

Jack will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp.
