William "Bill" John Merchbaker

William "Bill" John Merchbaker, 90, of 13004 State Hwy. 98, Meadville, passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, December 4, 2014.

Bill was born in Meadville, on August 22, 1924, a son of the late Lawrence and Lula (Perry) Merchbaker.

On February 23, 1963 Bill married Connie Gill; she survives.

He was a long time member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

After more than 35 years of service, Bill retired from Seco-Warwick, formerly known as Sunbeam Corporation and Westinghouse, where he was employed as a Millwright. A veteran of WW II, Bill entered the US Navy on March 8, 1943 and served his country honorably until his discharge on April 21, 1946. He was a graduate of Meadville High School and had attended the former St. Brigid Catholic School. Bill was a lifetime member of both the Meadville Eagles Club and Meadville Elks Club. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed hunting. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's school events, sporting events and other activities.

In addition to his wife, Connie, of 51 years, Bill is survived by a daughter Joan Steele and her husband Brian of Meadville, a son Jim Merchbaker and his wife Druann of Uniontown, five grandchildren Dillon Steele and his fiance' Reanna Yates of Clarion, Breanna Steele, Sierra Steele both of Meadville, Jordan Merchbaker, Alexander Merchbaker both of Uniontown, a sister Mary Hauck of Crystal River, FL, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three sisters Hilda Lindgren, Dorothy Wagner, Betty Weber, three brothers Victor Merchbaker, Raymond Merchbaker and Paul Merchbaker.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-6 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 9, at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.

Bill will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., both in Meadville, PA 16335.
