William "Bill" Shifflett

William "Bill" Shifflett, 90, of Saegertown, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Meadville Medical Center. William was born in Elkton, VA on August 29, 1928, the son of the late Roy T. and Alice (Lam) Shifflett. Bill married Erica Grossman on December 16, 1950, who survives him. He was affiliated with Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown.
 
Following graduation from Oxford High School, Bill entered the US Army on September 10, 1946 and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1947, after being awarded the WW II Victory and Army of Occupation medals. Bill continued his education by graduating from Penn State in 1954 with a B. S. Degree in Hotel Administration and a minor in Finance.  During the course of his career, Bill was employed by Dupont Hotel in Wilmington, Delaware, owned a restaurant in Oxford, Pennsylvania, and oversaw and managed the Stouffer Restaurant chain for the northeastern part of the United States. Bill also owned the former Pointe Drive-In, in Canton, Ohio, and more recently was the owner, operator and manager of Hayfield Estates, Hayfield Township. He was a life-long member of Lions’ Paw, an honorary organization at Penn State University. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, landscaping and otherwise working outdoors.
 
In addition to Erica, his wife of 68 years, Bill is survived by two daughters, Gail Martino (Joe) of Canton, Ohio, Diane Davison of Jacksonville Florida, five grandchildren, Amanda Davison, Matthew Davison, Nathan Davison, Derek Aemmer and Joseph Aemmer, five great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Harold Bryson of Oxford, Pennsylvania.
 
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Todd and Margaret Bryson.
 
Family and friends are invited to call from 1:30 to 3:30 on Thursday, January 24th at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD STREET, SAEGERTOWN, where Funeral Services will follow at 3:30 with Rev. Mark Fischer, pastor of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.
 
Bill will be laid to rest in Brookhouser Cemetery, Hayfield Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
